christmas ornaments gift boxes seasonal
Christmas is the busiest season of the year for anyone who sells laser cut work, and it starts earlier than most people expect. Search interest for Christmas laser cut designs begins climbing in October and peaks in November, not December — the people buying files want time to cut, finish and sell before the holidays. If you sell at markets or online, October is when your samples should be on the table.
This is a guide to the Christmas designs in my Christmas collection: what each one is, what it is good for, and how to get the best result from it.
Ornaments: the core of the season
Ornaments are the best-selling Christmas laser product for good reasons. They cut in minutes, use offcuts, post in an envelope, and personalise easily. Most of my ornament files are designed to work at any material thickness, because they are flat or layered rather than slotted together.
Layered nativity ornaments
The Christmas Nativity Ornament is built from two layers: a cut-out front showing the stable, the star and the holy family, and a solid back layer behind it. Staining or painting the back layer — deep red is a classic — makes the scene stand out without any extra cutting. Glue the two layers, add a ribbon through the hanging loop, and it is finished.
There are two more nativity designs in the same spirit: the Nativity Scene Christmas Ornament and the Joy Nativity Scene Ornament. Offered together, the three make a natural set for church markets and craft fairs.
Baby’s first Christmas

“Baby’s first Christmas” ornaments sell every single year, to every new family. The Baby Feet First Christmas Ornament has the words around a ring, two little feet with hearts in the middle and snowflakes along the bottom. Cut the ring and the centre in different colours — green and white, or natural wood with a painted centre — for a two-tone piece. There is also a heart version.
These are natural ornaments to personalise: engraving the baby’s name and the year on the back layer turns them into a keepsake the family brings out every December.
Lettering ornaments
The Joy, Love, Peace, Believe Christmas Ornament sets the four words in decorative lettering shaped like a Christmas tree, inside a hanging ring. The lettering is engraved rather than cut, so it stays crisp even on small ornaments — it suits buyers who want something less traditional than a nativity.
Christmas boxes: the gift that holds the gift
Boxes are the most searched laser cut product all year round, and at Christmas they become packaging. A good Christmas box gets used again next year, which is exactly why people pay for it.

The Christmas Gift Box with 3 Dividers has slotted walls, three dividers inside and a sliding lid engraved with “Merry & Bright” and a leafy border. It is drawn for 3 mm (1/8 in) material. The compartments make it a natural box for tea, cookies, ornaments or a set of small gifts. If your plywood is not exactly 3 mm, read resizing files for a different material thickness before cutting a batch.

The Christmas Tree Sublimation Mug Box is made for anyone who sells personalised mugs. It has Christmas tree cut-outs on the sides, a slot for the mug handle and a lid, again for 3 mm material. Painted in bright colours it becomes part of the gift; left natural it looks rustic. Pairing a sublimation mug with its own box is one of the easiest ways to raise the price of a mug.
Nativity candle holder

The Nativity Scene Candle Holder is a standing scene — the stable roof, the star, a heart with a cross and the holy family — with a tealight sitting in a ring of cut-out crosses at the front. It measures about 10.4 × 7.9 × 14.7 cm (4.1 × 3.1 × 5.8 in) and is drawn for 3 mm material.
Use a tealight in its metal cup or an LED tealight, and never leave a lit candle unattended near wood. Designing laser cut lamps and lanterns explains the safety side.
Something small: Christmas earrings
The Gingerbread Christmas Earrings are a quick add-on for a market stall or a stocking filler. Cut them from thin wood or card and seal them; the laser cut earrings guide covers sizes and hardware.
Materials that work best for Christmas pieces
| Product | Material | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ornaments | 3 mm birch plywood, MDF or acrylic | Any thickness works for flat and layered designs |
| Two-tone ornaments | Wood front + stained or painted back | Colour the back layer before gluing |
| Gift box and mug box | 3 mm (1/8 in) plywood or MDF | Joints are drawn for this thickness |
| Candle holder | 3 mm plywood | Tealight in a metal cup or LED only |
| Earrings | Thin wood, basswood or card | Seal before adding hooks |
For layered pieces like the nativity ornaments, how layered laser cut art is built covers alignment and glue-up so every layer lines up.
A timeline for the season
- Early October: cut one of each design you plan to sell and photograph it. Listings need photos before the November rush.
- Mid-October: decide your personalised options — names and years on ornaments, logos on boxes — and test your engraving settings.
- November: this is the peak. Cut in batches and keep popular ornaments in stock.
- Early December: last orders for shipping; focus on local pickup and markets.
Can I sell what I make from these files?
Check the licence on each listing before you sell — laser cut files for commercial use explains what licences usually allow.
